PU Men’s Heavyweights Take Team Cup at Sprints, Now Focused on IRA National Championship Regatta

With a two-week hiatus from competition coming into the Eastern Sprints last weekend, the Princeton University men’s heavyweight crew was able to fine-tune some things.

“We had worked on some really great changes over the couple of weeks that we had since the end of the regular season,” said Princeton head coach Greg Hughes.

That work paid dividends as Princeton won the Rowe Cup team points title at the regatta, which took place at Lake Quinsigamond in Worcester, Mass.

“I look at it as a great step forward for the whole team, everybody had their best race of the season up there and that is ultimately the goal and that led to Rowe Cup,” said Hughes. more

Tiger Softball Makes Statement in Ivy South Race, Taking 3 of 4 from Penn to Solidify Hold on 1st Place

Senior Star Arendt Explodes for Big Weekend, Helping Tiger Baseball Go 3-1 Against Penn

Last weekend, senior infielder Arendt starred as Princeton took three of four games from Penn in a critical Ivy League Gehrig Division series. Arendt went 4-for-4 with three runs, four RBIs and two homers on the day in a 7-2  and 3-1 sweep on Saturday. A day later, he went 3-for-6 overall with a run and an RBI as the Tigers won 5-1 before losing the nightcap 5-2.  Arendt was later named the Ivy Co-Player of the Week along with Cornell’s Cole Rutherford for his performance against Penn. Princeton, now 17-14 overall and 9-3 Ivy, leads Cornell (12-14 overall, 5-5 Ivy) and Penn (14-18 overall, 6-6 Ivy) in the Gehrig Division standings. Making Steady Progress Since Opening Regatta, PU Women’s Open Crew Primed to Battle Yale, USC

Facing the defending national champion Ohio State and reigning Ivy League champ Brown in its opening regatta this spring, the Princeton University women’s open crew didn’t waste any time seeing where it stood among the elite boats in the country.

“Each year is a new year so we were really excited to test our speed early on,” said Princeton head coach Lori Dauphiny of the March 26 competition.

“I don’t know if I would have chosen to race those crews first but at the same time it was a very good test to see where our speed was early in the season and then how to capitalize on that in the future.”

While the top varsity 8 finished third, it more than held its own as Brown took first in 6:35.4 over the 2,000-meter course while Ohio State was second in 6:38.0 and Princeton was a close third in 6:38.3.

“I would say that it was a respectable race and that the crews that we raced against were fast,” said Dauphiny. more
