STARING CONTEST: Is it a showdown? Two candidates for Man’s Best Friend facing off? Dog in polka dots waistcoat vs. horse with holly leaf? Who blinked first? Only a New Yorker cartoonist could write the caption for this encounter in the heart of downtown Princeton last Sunday.

Bernie Miller has announced that he is stepping down as mayor of Princeton Township, effective January 2, 2011, when a reorganization meeting will be held to select a new mayor.
A resolution concerning future use of the Valley Road Building and a discussion about a failed attempt to achieve “Blue Ribbon School” status for Riverside School were the main themes of last week’s Board of Education meeting.
Borough Council unanimously introduced an ordinance fixing the increase of municipal employees’ salaries at a maximum of 1.5 percent for the year at a recent public meeting. However, all municipal employees have contributed 1.5 percent of their salaries to go toward their own health benefits this year, creating no net increase in borough spending.

I’ve been wondering how I would answer this week’s Town Talk question. Without meaning to be difficult, I might say that I don’t have a favorite holiday movie, and anyway what’s a holiday movie? The real question is what movies do you find yourself truly wanting to see when the holiday season comes around? Do you want something light and superficially appropriate that you can check off your list of things to do this time of year, or do you want something closer to the emotional heart of the season?
