Through his many years in Princeton and as a member of Princeton University's class of 1936, William Scheide has taught music history, founded and directed the Bach Aria Group, enjoyed his role as a philanthropist, and maintained a commitment to social causes, including serving as a senior director of the NAACP Legal Defense and Education Fund.
Bill Cirullo never thought of being anything other than a teacher. He started coaching Little League right after he stopped playing Little League. The individual who had the biggest influence on his career path was coach Larry Ivan, his social studies teacher at the Quarry Street Middle School. "From the moment I met him, I wanted to be like him," Mr. Cirullo recalled. "Larry Ivan treated me with such respect. I remember him telling me: 'Bill, you can do anything you want'."
As the Regional Planning Board of Princeton heard various points of view on the rezoning and ultimate redevelopment of the nine-acre tract that currently houses Princeton HealthCare System's Merwick Care Center on Bayard Lane, two themes were clear.
Two months ago, when the Princeton Environmental Commission announced that it would honor residents for their part in creating a more "sustainable" community, little did commissioners know that the award ceremony itself would be an exercise in sustainability.
