David Mantell, 50, formerly of Princeton, died July 23 in Chicago after a courageous struggle with cancer.
Born and raised in Princeton, he graduated from Princeton Day School. He received a BA in political science from the University of Pennsylvania and went on to get a law degree from Temple Law School and an MBA from the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign.
For many years, he was a financial analyst, focusing on the cable and media industries for Loop Capital Markets in Chicago. He could be seen frequently on CNN Financial News and was widely quoted in the financial press in his areas of expertise. Previously, he was a co-director of venture capital for OSBI Consulting and a Managing Director for Commonwealth Capital Advisors.
David loved the beautiful city of Chicago with all of its energy and diversity of culture. He also loved to travel, exploring foreign cultures, and photography. It gave him great pleasure to speak Spanish and French. His interest in travel, culture, and business came together in the past few years in a partnership with Maison Michel-David vineyards, importing organic wine from France to the U.S.
Predeceased by his brother Stephen and his father Harold, he is survived by his wife Sonia, his daughter Gabriela, his brother Michael, his sister Eva, and his mother Marianne.
Donations in Davids memory may be made to the American Cancer Society.
Arrangements are under the direction of the Mather-Hodge Funeral Home, Princeton.
