To the Editor:
This year, Princeton Democrats benefited from a lively and informative nomination contest between four excellent candidates for Council. Out of that process emerged one incumbent and a first-time candidate, both of whom share the goals of sustaining what makes Princeton a special place to live while also actively pursuing new ideas and approaches to benefit all Princeton residents. We encourage Princeton voters to elect David Cohen and Marina Rubina to Council for the upcoming three-year term.
Through his previous terms on Council, David has proven a tireless advocate for such issues as sustainability, traffic safety, and affordable housing. One of us had the opportunity to work closely with David on a town taskforce and can attest to the dogged research, thoughtfulness, and good humor that he brings to deliberations. He is always prepared to offer helpful suggestions and ideas on topics of town governance while welcoming proposals and feedback from his fellow residents. An architect who has served on the town’s planning board, he understands the ins and outs of zoning codes and of the town’s Master Plan. He pledges to help make the town’s often antiquated codes clearer, more user-friendly, and better aligned with contemporary conditions. David will also focus on the development of a Stormwater Utility for the town as a means of mitigating the effects of climate change.
We believe that Marina will make a strong addition to Council, bringing a fresh perspective and a wealth of new ideas. Also an architect, she has long advocated for zoning rules that promote a variety of housing types, all with the goal of improving affordability in our town. She will work to improve safety for pedestrians and bicyclists around town. As a member of the economic development committee of Experience Princeton, she understands the importance of small businesses to the vitality of this town and will work to help keep things local and thriving. Having emigrated during her youth from Russia, she wants to share her vision of the American dream with all Princeton residents.
Please vote for David and Marina and help the work of sustaining Princeton as a vibrant, welcoming community.
