To the Editor:
I agree with the writers about restoring North Harrison Street to normal traffic patterns [Mailbox, September 9]. Good ideas with good intentions don’t always work out as planned. As a regular driver on North Harrison as I am, multiple times a day, you must admit every issue raised by the writers of last week’s Mailbox comments is true. To compound the issue is the lack of use by those who were the intended beneficiaries.
The money and time spent on this clearly unsuccessful venture to improve the safety of cyclists and pedestrians would better be spent finding a solution to the multiple monthly automobile accidents at many intersections along Valley Road from Witherspoon to North Harrison streets. Drivers seem to have difficulty stopping at the intersections with Valley. Stricter law enforcement of full stops is necessary and flashing lights as seen at some pedestrian cross walks to alert drivers of the stop signs would help.
