To the Editor:
North Harrison Street should be restored to normal traffic flow. I appreciate the candor of the writers from Walk Bike Princeton [“North Harrison Street Road Diet is a Step Toward Safer Streets,” Mailbox, September 2]. “Road diet” means road choke. The dysfunctional bike lane, now with actual obstacles, is not even a good fig leaf.
For the goal of choking traffic, great success.
Every ambulance, police, fire response risks delay. This is to say nothing of the casual hazards.
On one side, winter maintenance lags because of the barricade. On the other, delivery vehicles park, as they must. Every turning point from the main traffic lane across the bike lane is a danger.
Ewing Street has always been a good alternative for bicyclists to avoid that section of North Harrison Street. North Harrison Street should be put back the way it was, right turn on red included. End the road choke.
