SENSORY ASSISTANCE: Guests to the Michener Art Museum in Doylestown, Pa., can check in at the Visitors Services desk to borrow a sensory kit during their visit, with noise-reducing headphones, fidgets, and laminated communication boards.

The Michener Museum in Doylestown, Pa., has renewed its autism certification this year and maintains the Certified Autism Center (CAC) designation from The International Board of Credentialing and Continuing Education Standards.

Check in at the Visitors Services desk to borrow a sensory kit during your visit, with noise-reducing headphones, fidgets, and laminated communication boards. A dedicated quiet space is available on the lower level, accessible by stairs or elevator. Dedicated docents are also trained to deliver inclusive, engaging, and thoughtful tours to visitors on the autism spectrum.

“This increases what the Michener is able to offer our visitors in terms of resources, and also expands our impact within the local community,” said Director of Learning and Engagement Casey Repasey.

The CAC designation is awarded to organizations whose staff undergo a specialized training and certification process, equipping them with the skills, resources, and knowledge of best practices to assist and accommodate autistic and sensory-sensitive visitors and their families. Recertification for Michener Art Museum was funded by a grant from Foundations Community Partnership.
