“Places We Shop — Princeton Series,” an exhibit of paintings by artist Barbara DiLorenzo, is on view at Princeton Public Library through September 30. The exhibit is a series of paintings of independent Princeton retailers created on site in one session. Each painting is accompanied by a description of the artist’s experience while creating the painting.

Princeton Record Exchange, jaZams, Whole Earth Center, and LiLLiPiES Bakery are among the 14 establishments DiLorenzo painted in acrylic on canvas for the series, which is on display in the Technology Center and hallway on the library’s second floor.

As the library’s maker-in-residence this summer, DiLorenzo will also hold a workshop series where rising third through fifth graders will imagine and create a detailed diorama of their own shop. Registration is required for the Diorama Design Studio, which will be held on July 27, 28, and 30 at 2 p.m. in the Myra and Van Williams Spark Lab.

Dioramas created during the workshop will be displayed during an Art Talk and Open House with DiLorenzo on July 30 at 4 p.m. in the Community Room. The artist will give a brief presentation about the exhibit during the event which will include refreshments provided by some of the businesses featured in the series and is co-sponsored by Experience Princeton. Following the presentation, attendees will be invited to view the paintings and read their accompanying stories.

A Meet the Artist event, during which DiLorenzo will paint the library’s Lending Desk while interacting with patrons, is planned for Wednesday, August 12, from 2 to 4 p.m., in the main lobby.
