Wynter Gallery, at 4 South Union Street in Lambertville, presents “Standing Still in a Constant State of Departure,” a new exhibition opening on June 13 by Portland, Ore.-based fine arts photographer Landry Major. This spiritually moving body of work is in

posthumous collaboration with and in deep honor of her son, the late Cash Kasper. Together, though separated by time and space, the

two explore the enduring, poetic, and transcendent nature of love through this visual conversation.

An opening reception is on Saturday, June 13, from 5 to 8 p.m.

The title of the exhibition, “Standing Still in a Constant State of Departure,” is a phrase of Kasper’s own writing, discovered in a notebook after his passing. The phrase carries the tension at the heart of this work: To be standing bodily present for the sake of a loved one even while feeling more on the verge of leaving; Standing Still in a Constant State of Departure. The title itself anchors the exhibition in Kasper’s own language, and in doing so, draws him into authorship alongside his mother.

Major’s deeply moving photography combines a unique use of gold and silver burnishing with layered landscapes, figures, and gesture, all while keeping Kasper’s divine touch at the center. The result is a body of work which moves with a quiet kind of ceremony seemingly created to remind viewers of love’s defiance toward space, time and even death. Major’s art tells of how a bond strong enough can reach between the realms and connect us past the physical body’s limits, staying vibrant and whole.

Major’s practice is rooted in awe for the natural world and attentiveness to the inner life of human beings. “Standing Still in a Constant State of Departure” marks a deeply personal chapter in her ongoing artistic journey.
