CHAMBER CELLISTS: The Galvin Cello Quartet performs a free concert at Richardson Auditorium on Monday, June 22. The program is titled “Voice of the Piano.”
In a rescheduled performance from last summer, Princeton University Summer Chamber Concerts presents the Galvin Cello Quartet on Monday, June 22. This concert is part of the free annual summer concert series in Richardson Auditorium in Alexander Hall on the campus of Princeton University.
The ensemble has earned recognition for bringing both classical masterworks and contemporary repertoire to audiences. At Richardson, they will present their “Voice of the Piano,” which features pieces by Mozart, Debussy, Beethoven, Mehmari, and Gershwin.
“We are thrilled to welcome the Galvin Cello Quartet to this year’s summer series,” said Melissa Bohl, PUSCC artistic director. “Their musicianship and passion for chamber music embody the spirit of our series and our mission to bring world-class performances to the Princeton community.”
The Summer Chamber Concerts was founded in 1968 by music journalist, pianist, and cellist Barbara Sand. To this day, audience members recall sitting on the Graduate College lawn with blankets and picnic baskets for the concerts. Renovations at the Graduate College prompted a change of venue in 1991 to Richardson Auditorium in Alexander Hall.
Tickets are free, available online one week before the concert through the University ticket office at: tickets.princeton.edu.
