To the Editor:
We were disappointed to read that the voter turnout in Princeton for the Democratic primary election on June 2 was less than 15 percent of registered Democrats. In a town that prides itself on being involved, engaged, informed, and highly educated, this is unacceptable.
This primary was critical in deciding on the Democratic candidate to run for the congressional seat being vacated by U.S. Rep. Bonnie Watson Coleman. It was critical in having a say on who sits on our Princeton Council to represent our local needs and interests. It was also critical in determining who represents us at the county level.
We cannot take anything for granted right now when it comes to elections. We had the opportunity to be heard, and the majority of registered Democrats in Princeton chose to be silent. I certainly hope we can all commit to do better — to show up and be heard by voting, not just by complaining — in the future.
