Council Candidate Marina Rubina “Walks the Walk” and “Rides the Bike”

To the Editor:

A lot of us in Princeton are thinking about street safety these days. As a trustee at Walk Bike Princeton, a nonprofit dedicated to helping make streets safe for all users, I know we need candidates on Council who will do more to keep everybody safe.

When I ride my bicycle to the Dinky Station, I regularly see Marina Rubina walking to work. When I was at the Princeton Police Wheels Rodeo earlier this month, I saw Marina riding her bike up Witherspoon Street. Marina Rubina, more than any other candidate, is qualified and ready to lead on street safety. She “walks the walk” and she “rides the bike.”

I have also been impressed by Marina’s work on affordable housing, another key issue facing the town. Marina has offered her services as an architect to the non-profit Princeton Community Housing. She also showed an ability to find consensus in the community by working with neighbors to redesign an inclusionary housing project in Jugtown, so as to better fit the neighborhood.

To avoid any conflict of interest, Marina would no longer be practicing architecture in town if she is elected to Council, and would recuse herself if any past project was up for discussion by Council. However, I trust that her experience practicing as an architect in Princeton will help Council make wise decisions in future.

Please join me in voting for Marina Rubina for Council.
