To the Editor:
We are supporting Jon Durbin in the Democratic primary for Princeton Council because of his informed, strategic approach to the challenges and opportunities facing Princeton, his demonstrated ability to lead and inspire, and his stalwart dedication to fairness and inclusion in civic life.
Many of you know Jon from his many years successfully stewarding multiple youth baseball programs and Democratic political organizations, where the throughline of his leadership has been expanding access while delivering excellence. In his professional life, Jon is an executive at W.W. Norton Publishing, where is manages major muti-year projects including both market-leading textbooks and widely read histories, such as These Truths by Jill Lepore, that help us understand the social and political world we live in. Also, in so many informal but just as important ways, Jon and his spouse Jean are pillars of community service in the Princeton community, who repeatedly amaze us with their attentiveness and generosity toward their neighbors.
True to his nature, Jon is running a grassroots, direct democracy campaign, with the purpose of widening the circle of civic engagement and encouraging more people to participate in shaping our town’s future. To date, Jon has knocked on hundreds of doors and has participated in 18 neighborhood gatherings across Princeton, resulting in many meaningful conversations. At the gathering that we hosted in late March, Jon was eager to answer questions and just as eager to listen to our neighbors’ experiences with and priorities for our town. One of Jon’s campaign promises is to create more opportunities for community engagement of this type within town planning processes.
We encourage you to vote for Jon in the Democratic primary on June 2.
