Sue Altman Has Skills, Courage, Moral Compass to Meet Moment

To the Editor:

We write to enthusiastically endorse Sue Altman for Congress. We have seen firsthand how she has built and led grassroots coalitions to advance progressive policy, reform the Democratic party, and serve the people of New Jersey, most recently as Sen. Andy Kim’s first state director. We remember when she was one of the first people brave enough to take on Gov. Chris Christie over cuts to school funding. When she led a coalition of unions, advocates, and community members to expose corrupt tax breaks, and party bosses had state troopers drag her out of a hearing on the bill in Trenton to silence her. And when, under her leadership as state director, NJ Working Families began the lawsuit to abolish the County Line and strengthen New Jersey’s democratic process.

It’s no surprise that even in a strong field of candidates to replace our beloved Representative Bonnie Watson Coleman, Sue has earned the endorsement of the Princeton Community Democratic Organization (PCDO), Working Families-NJ, NJ Citizen Action, and the statewide College Democrats. And she has become the target of shadowy outside groups who are spending heavily to attack Sue because they know she won’t answer to them once in Congress.

Sue Altman is the candidate with the skills, courage, and moral compass to meet this moment. She will work to build back Democratic institutions and transform our economy to work for everyone. Indeed, at a time when too many are disengaged from our politics, Sue is running a grassroots campaign, not funded by outside interests, and has excited people who share her vision for a stronger future. Please join us in voting to send this proven progressive leader to work for us in Washington.
