Westminster Conservatory Celebrates Asian Heritage

On Saturday, May 9, at 7 p.m., Westminster Conservatory of Music of Rider University will present a faculty recital in celebration of National Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage month. The concert will take place in the Gill Chapel on the Lawrenceville campus of Rider University, 2083 Lawrenceville Road. It is open to the public free of charge.

The concert will feature music for solo piano, piano duo, vocal solo and ensemble, string quartet, and five-string viola, written by composers of Japanese, Malaysian, Chinese, Taiwanese, and Korean descent. Of particular note is the world premiere of Inakamichi for string quartet by Mercer County composer and string teacher Takuya Horiuchi.

Westminster Conservatory faculty members who will perform include Timothy Urban, baritone and recorder; and pianists Bing-Bing Chang, Jenny Chiou, Eunju Kim, and Fang-Ting Liu. Guest artists include Jing Yang, five-string viola; and the New Jersey Philharmonic Chorus, Duomi Liu, conductor.
