COMEDY CABARET: The Phillips’ Mill Players are shown during rehearsals for last year’s cabaret show. The performers will take the stage on May 13-16 for this annual event in New Hope, Pa.
The Phillips’ Mill Players will present the annual Spring Musical Comedy Cabaret, this year titled “Games People Play,” on May 13-16 at 7:30 p.m.
The Phillips’ Mill Community Association has produced drama events for 97 years. “Games People Play” is its 19th annual comedy cabaret, always a sellout event of comedy, music, sketches, singing, dancing, and mayhem. The event helps support all drama programs at the Mill, as well as the upkeep of the Mill itself.
The group’s 15 budding thespians will carry on in the true tradition of cabaret presenting 12 different acts. Like cabaret ancestors, the Players’ local talent comes from all walks of life — teachers, classically trained dancers, former corporate types, a rock band singer, TV commercial actors, an ex-diplomat, and even someone who can play a Native American flute.
Among the cast is Fran Young, is a longtime director who majored in theater at Northwestern University and taught high school for nearly 40 years. Gery Juleff, born in Northern Ireland, is an ex-diplomat who once won the Eurovision Song contest in Uganda. Fran Ferrone joined the Mill Players after 30-plus years in the corporate world.
Seating is cabaret style at tables of six to eight. Audience members are welcome to arrive early with their own drinks and snacks to have before the show begins. Doors open at 6:30 pm. Tickets are $35 – $45. Phillips’ Mill is located at 2619 River Road in New Hope, Pa. Visit phillipsmill.org.
