To the Editor:
I am writing in support of Marina Rubina, whom I have known for the last 10 years. We have children who are both juniors at Princeton High School and her younger son studies piano with me.
Marina has extensive expertise in land-use law and is deeply committed to modernizing local zoning ordinances. She has consistently argued that many of these laws were originally designed to exclude certain communities and continue to reinforce inequality today by limiting middle- and low-income housing, restricting environmentally friendly transportation, and overlooking opportunities to improve bike-ability and walk-ability.
I believe that Marina’s in-depth knowledge of local zoning policies and hands-on knowledge of land use, along with her fiscal experience starting and developing multiple successful architecture and community-based businesses, makes her a unique candidate for Princeton Council.
As someone closely connected to Westminster Conservatory (the community music school currently still on the Princeton campus) and Westminster Choir College (now in Lawrenceville), I expect our town officials to make thoughtful, creative, and well-informed decisions about how to care for and plan the future of this property. I am counting on them to honor its musical history and to respect the individuals who have dedicated their careers to providing music education for students of all ages from the Princeton community on this campus.
I trust that Marina’s values, expertise, and experience will help guide the town toward creative, thoughtful, and community-focused decisions about how the Westminster property and other local spaces are utilized, renovated, and developed.
