To the Editor:
I am writing in support of Sam Wang in the Democratic primary for New Jersey’s 12th Congressional District this June. With 13 candidates vying for the Democratic nomination, the June 2 primary could be decided by just a few dozen votes. Therefore, the readers of Town Topics and residents of Princeton and nearby communities could have a significant impact casting their vote.
I had the opportunity to hear Dr. Wang speak at the “Stand Up for Science” event in Trenton in March 2025. This is a group formed in 2025 to “Save Science, Protect Health, and Defend Democracy.” This event was attended by nurses, doctors, teachers, scientists, professors, and many others frustrated by the current administration’s attack on science as well as our election system.
Sam was there to support the organizers of the event. He took the stage and delivered a terrific and memorable speech. His message was clear about what’s at stake: if you want to support science, scientists, health care professionals, and our system of democracy, the time to act is now.
In my opinion, our district would do well to elect a talented and effective communicator who can deliver a distinct message with credibility. New Jersey’s 12th District and our country need a leader in congress who can cut through the noise and stand up for principles that have made our country strong.
Throughout our history, American leaders — from presidents to members of Congress — have recognized that scientific advancement is central to our nation’s strength, prosperity, and global leadership. Investments in research, evidence-based policymaking, and respect for facts have long been part of what makes America exceptional. That is precisely why Congress would benefit from more individuals with deep scientific training and a commitment to data-driven decision making.
I encourage voters in the Princeton community to support Sam Wang, a local leader who brings both scientific expertise and the ability to communicate it effectively in service of the public good.
