Former Councilman Supports Durbin For Election to Princeton Council

To the Editor:

We have been so lucky over the years to have had such great Princeton Council representation. I served for over 15 years on the Township Committee and then on Princeton Council. I realized to be a Council member it requires a reliable, flexible, honest, caring, unwavering person who is true to all of the Princeton communities.

I am 100 percent sure that Jon Durbin possesses all these qualities and more.

Jon has been a proven community leader for more than 15 years. For nearly a decade Jon led Princeton Little League, helping transform the league to make baseball and softball a joyous experience for all children and families. Jon continues to serve our children in these programs long after his own have graduated. Currently, he is the president of Babe Ruth Baseball for Princeton, West Windsor, Plainsboro, and Cranbury, and general manager of Princeton American Legion Post 218 baseball team, and he is nearing his 20th year on the board of Princeton Little League. These leadership positions have enabled Jon to fine tune his communication skills while building collaboration and trust with so many different families and members of our communities.

Jon has been developing the civic skills and the knowledge needed to be an effective Princeton Council member. His years as president of the Princeton Community Democratic Organization and leadership roles in the Princeton Democratic Municipal Committee and the Mercer County Democratic Executive Committee have helped Jon see the big picture on the many issues surrounding Princeton’s day to day issues.

Jon’s professional experience as a history book editor and vice president at W.W. Norton, the nation’s largest employee-owned publishing house, will enable him to contribute valuable skills to Princeton Council beyond exceptional communication such as fiscal and long range planning, complex project management, and creative problem solving to achieve sensible win-win outcomes.

We need a Councilperson that on day one can hit the ground running. Jon has always worked hard at building strong, collaborative relationships with our elected officials and community leaders and stayed current with the many issues facing Princeton Council and town. Jon understands how important it is to hold taxes to a bearable level so that seniors and residents with lesser means can stay in Princeton. Jon also has new ideas concerning our parks and recreation, affordable housing, social services, and parking.

Not often are we lucky enough to have the opportunity to elect a person with such integrity and wisdom. Princeton is a special town with super great people. Jon will respect and continue to lift up the residents. Jon is on a mission to knock on 1,000 doors while campaigning in Princeton. He just wants to say hi and listen to what issues or concerns our residents may have.

I am truly elated and full of joy with the possibility that Jon could be our next Princeton Council person. Please join me in electing Jon Durbin for Princeton Council.
