“OWL TAXI” This photograph by Rebecca DePorte is featured in the 33rd annual “Phillips’ Mill Photographic Exhibition,” on view March 29 through April 17 at Phillips’ Mill in New Hope, Pa.
The 33rd annual “Phillips’ Mill Photographic Exhibition” opens on Sunday, March 29, and runs through Friday, April 17, featuring 150 works selected from over 1,000 submissions from across the U.S. This show continues to showcase fine art photography from the local region and beyond, with a focus on “Photography as Art, Photographer as Artist.”
The juried show will fill the Mill, upstairs and down, with examples of what the artist’s eyes, heart and soul — paired with photographic technologies old and new — can produce. Various styles, techniques and processes are represented. Landscapes, portraits, still lifes, botanicals, animals, architecture, and street photography are among the myriad subjects featured.
This year’s jurors were: Dewitt Jones, one of America’s top professional photographers, a National Geographic photojournalist for over 20 years, and author of numerous books; Frank T. Smith, an internationally recognized outdoor and architectural photographer who, as an OM System Ambassador, also teaches modern computational photography; and Sara Ascalon, an educator in photography and post-processing, and a multi-award winner.
Following the juried exhibition, the Mill’s Photo Committee — the dedicated volunteers who organize and mount the juried show — will exhibit their own work in the “Not-Your-Run-of-the-Mill Photo Show” from April 19 to April 26. A special feature of this show, “The Backwall,” highlights a themed collection of images that explore a common concept. This year’s theme is “Happy Mistakes,” unexpected images resulting from shooting errors such as a fogged lens, an accidental shutter release, or movement.
Gallery hours are Sunday, Wednesday, and Thursday from 1 to 5 p.m., and Friday and Saturday from 1 to 7 p.m. A donation of $5 is requested. All works will be available for purchase.
Phillips’ Mill Community Association is at 2619 River Road in New Hope, Pa.
