Paintings by Andrew Werth At Bell’s in Lambertville

“ELUSIVE #15”: This acrylic on panel work by Andrew Werth is among his paintings on view at Belle’s Tavern in Lambertville through April.

The art of Andrew Werth returns to Bell’s Tavern for the first time in 14 years, featuring a selection of geometric and biomorphic abstractions. His acrylic paintings are built through a slow, deliberate process of thousands of individual brushstrokes arranged in maze-like patterns. Subtle color gradations in both the underpainting and the surface marks create luminous and shifting color interactions.

Many of the paintings incorporate mathematical structures such as tessellations and Turing patterns, reflecting Werth’s longstanding interest in systems, perception, and visual order. Drawing on a previous career as a software developer, he designs his compositions with an underlying logic that supports their organic appearance.

A West Windsor resident, Werth has been a full-time artist for over 20 years, exhibiting widely in group and solo shows throughout the region. Highlights include solo exhibitions at the Monmouth Museum in Lincroft and The Center for Contemporary Art in Bedminster, as well as nine two-person shows at Artists’ Gallery in Lambertville.

Werth’s paintings are on view at Bell’s Tavern, 183 North Union Street, Lambertville, during March and April.
