To the Editor:
We are writing in strong support of Jon Durbin for Princeton Council. We know Jon to be a dedicated public servant who cares for our town and all of its people. He brings a lot of experience and wisdom to the table along with fresh ideas for how to help improve the quality of life in our town, including for our most vulnerable residents. He is collaborative, creative, likable, and willing to do the work as shown by decades of volunteer devotion to our town.
People who know Larry and me know that we have worked with the youth in our town through Committed and Faithful Princetonians where we served as mentors and also provided food and guidance to kids. I served on the School Board. Jon’s service to Princeton’s youth and families was through Princeton Little League where he worked to ensure that everyone was included. He worked hard and creatively to foster both competition and fun to help our kids grow, set goals, and achieve all while having fun. He did more to keep the League running and improving long after his children graduated because his work with kids and families is what he enjoyed most. Jon also built connections between Little League, our school baseball programs, Babe Ruth Baseball, and American Legion Baseball to make sure kids could keep playing. As general manager of the team, Jon has also been instrumental in helping to keep Princeton American Legion Post 218 Baseball going strong, along with our friend, Tommy Parker.
Relatedly, Jon is working directly with Post 218, the first African American Legion Post in New Jersey, to revitalize their Legion Hall in the Witherspoon-Jackson Neighborhood, which served as an important community meeting place for decades.
We hope you will take the time to learn about why we know Jon will bring proven skill, passion, and commitment to his service on Council. We encourage you to get to know him because he walks the walk. Our only question for Jon when he announced his candidacy was, “What took you so long?”
