Phillips’ Mill Hosts Annual Members Art Show and Sale

“SNOW ON THE TRACKS”: This work by Helena van Emmerik-Finn is featured in the Mill Members Art Show and Sale at Phillips’ Mill in New Hope, Pa., March 7, 8, 13, 14, and 15. An Open House is on March 7 from 1 to 5 p.m.

The Mill Members Art Show and Sale returns to Phillips’ Mill in New Hope, Pa., for two weekends in March. The show will be open from 1 to 5 p.m. on two Saturdays, March 7 and 14, and two Sundays, March 8 and 15. The show has been extended to include a Friday, March 13, from 1 to 7 p.m.

“We wanted to add some evening hours to allow people to visit after work,” said show chair Shawn Campbell, an award-winning ceramicist from Alexandria Township. Admission is free, but donations are appreciated.

The Members Show features traditional paintings, drawings, printmaking, sculpture, photography, and fine crafts such as ceramics, woodworking, and textiles. Some of the artists exhibiting this year include Robert Beck, Dot Bunn, Robin Crowley, Matt DeProspero, James Feehan, Bradley Hendershot, Richard Lennox, Jane Ramsey, Susan Roseman, Helen van Emmerik-Finn, and Janine Dunn Wade. None of the works in this exhibition has been shown at the Mill before.

Last year over 500 works were available for sale, with something for everyone. Visitors enjoyed voting for the People’s Choice Award, and this year three artists will receive awards thanks to Mill members David Gaudette and David Maue of Solebury, Pa.

“This show is a gift to our member artists, allowing everyone an opportunity to have their work shown in our historic Mill,” said co-chair Gene Underwood, award-winning still life artist from Buckingham, Pa. “We also offer free admission, as a gift to the community and to attract a wide audience — and hopefully abundant sales — for our artists.”

An Open House will kick off the event on March 7 from 1-5 p.m. Last year’s opening was so well-attended, parking was a challenge. This year, the Mill is providing free parking and shuttle service at Canal Park just south of the Mill, in addition to onsite parking in the lot behind the Mill.

The Phillips’ Mill Community Association (PMCA) was founded in 1929 to establish a home for the New Hope Colony artists in the historic 18-century mill still used today. First president, William Lathrop, along with colleagues and friends including Daniel Garber, Edward Redfield, John Folinsbee, Mary Perkins Taylor, Morgan Colt, and Fern Coppedge were the first PMCA members to exhibit their works at the Mill. Today’s Mill Members Show and Sale pays homage to those earliest exhibitions and the artists who created the legacy of the still-thriving Bucks County artistic community.

Phillips’ Mill Community Association is located at 2619 River Road in New Hope, Pa. For more information, visit phillipsmill.org call (215) 862-0582.
