The Greater Princeton Youth Orchestra (GPYO) has announced its 2026 Summer Programs, offering young instrumentalists opportunities to grow musically in a focused, supportive ensemble setting.
Open to instrumentalists ages 6–18 with at least one year of playing experience, GPYO’s summer offerings include a Weekly Orchestra program, a specialized Flute Bootcamp, and a one-day Audition Workshop.
The Weekly Orchestra program from June 29 to August 24 includes nine sessions and a culminating concert. Students are placed in Junior and Senior Ensembles, rehearsing weekly from 5:30–7 p.m. They learn refining technique, ensemble skills, and musical expression. Flute Choir Bootcamp is July 13-17. The five sessions, ending with a concert, is designed specifically for flutists seeking focused instruction and ensemble experience. Sessions run Monday–Friday from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. (Junior level) and 1-3 p.m. (Advanced students).
The Audition Workshop is July 23 from 6 to 8:30 p.m. Led by GPYO executive director and veteran Broadway performer and opera director Lorraine Goodman, along with orchestra professionals, the event is designed to help students prepare confidently for college, youth orchestra, regional, and All-State auditions. Students receive guidance on presentation, repertoire selection, preparation strategies, and performance mindset in a supportive, feedback-driven environment. The session will also address audition/performance anxiety, and demeanor.
“Our summer programming is about steady growth — as musicians and as young people,” said Goodman. “We provide structure, artistic challenge, and high-level instruction in a format that fits families’ summer schedules while still delivering real musical progress.”
Founded in 1960, the Greater Princeton Youth Orchestra (GPYO) provides training and performance opportunities for students seeking challenging musical ensemble experiences, while cultivating a lifelong appreciation of music and the arts.
