Bravura Philharmonic Performs with Soloist

GOLD MEDALIST: Pianist Angela Cheng, who has won multiple awards, is the soloist in an upcoming concert at Princeton Alliance Church in Plainsboro on March 8.

The Bravura Philharmonic Orchestra, conducted by Chiu-Tze Lin, will present a concert featuring pianist Angela Cheng on March 8 at 7 p.m. at the Princeton Alliance Church, 20 Schalks Crossing, Plainsboro.

In addition to regular guest appearances with major orchestras in Canada, Cheng has performed with symphony orchestras across the U.S., Europe, and South America. She has also given solo recitals around the world, including concert halls in New York, London, Vienna, Edinburgh, Romania, and St. Petersburg.

Cheng was a Gold Medalist of the Arthur Rubinstein International Piano Masters Competition, as well as the first Canadian to win the Montreal International Piano Competition. A native of Hong Kong, she is currently on the artist faculty of the Oberlin Conservatory of Music, where she was honored with the 2011-12 Excellence in Teaching Award.

Cheng will perform the Piano Concerto in G Major by French composer Maurice Ravel. This piece was inspired while Ravel was touring the U.S. in 1928, where he was impressed by American jazz and spirituals. It was one of his final major works. Also on the program is the Beethoven Piano Concerto No. 4. The program will also include Rossini’s Overture to La Cenerentola (Cinderella).

General admission is $30 and $25 for seniors, students, and people with special needs. Premium seating is available at $50 each. Tickets purchased in advance are $20 ($50 for premium seating). Visit bravuraphil.org or call (609) 933-4729.
