The musical comedy The Prom, centered around four fading Broadway stars who insert themselves into a controversy surrounding a small-town prom, is being presented at Kelsey Theatre on the Mercer County Community College campus February 13-22.
The show debuted on Broadway in 2018, and was nominated for numerous awards. It balances satire and sincerity, providing an opportunity to engage in conversations about empathy, identity, and social justice.
While the has-been, self-absorbed actors struggle to make themselves relevant, the town’s parents want to keep the high school dance low-key, which is made increasingly difficult when one student wants to bring her girlfriend to the dance, thrusting the small midwestern town into the national spotlight.
Shows are Fridays, February 13 and 20 and Saturday, February 14 at 8 p.m.; with matinees Saturday, February 21 and Sundays, February 15 and 22 at 2 p.m. The campus is at 1200 Old Trenton Road in West Windsor. Tickets are $24-$26. Visit kelseytheatre.org or call (609) 570-3333.
