“HENRY VIII”: This painting by Ethan Covello was awarded Best in Show at the “Youth Art Exhibition” at Phillips’ Mill in New Hope, Pa. The show runs through February 15.
On January 24, 30 high school students were presented awards for outstanding artwork at the “Youth Art Exhibition” at Phillips’ Mill in New Hope, Pa. Best in Show, First Place, Second Place, Third Place, and Honorable Mention awards were spotlighted in five categories — Painting, Works on Paper, Photography, 3D Work, and Digital Art — from the more than 100 works on exhibit representing 25 area high schools. Morris Docktor, prominent portraitist and sculptor, juried the show, which runs on weekends through February 15. Admission is free.
Best in Show was awarded to Ethan Covello from Upper Dublin High School (Pa.) for his painting Henry VIII, which Docktor described as, “Compelling! Evocative expression, strong composition, strong but sensitive use of color.” First Place winners include Aleksandra Nieznalska from Pennsbury (Pa.) for her painting St. Andrew’s Eve; Sloan Miles from Solebury School (Pa.) for Horn Player, a work on paper; Ilya Chaika from Central Bucks South (Pa.) for her sculpture, Northern Lights; Madalyn Antenucci from Central Bucks East (Pa.) for her photograph, Fashion Week; and Jakob Edmund-Marietti from Ewing for his digital work, I Was a Prisoner in Your Skull. In addition, a People’s Choice award, voted on by exhibition attendees, will be announced at the close of the show.
