Singers of All Levels Invited to Join Choirs

SING OUT: All are welcome to join the Rider University Chorale, which meets on Tuesday evenings and will present a concert on April 19.

Singers of all ages have a chance to join choirs directed by Tom T. Shelton Jr., the composer and director who is a professor at Westminster Choir College of Rider University.

The Rider University Chorale welcomes singers in the greater Princeton area. There are no auditions: placement is guaranteed. It meets Tuesdays, 7 to 9 p.m., February 3 to April 14 in Gill Chapel. The repertoire will include classical, contemporary, and musical theater selections.

On Sunday, April 19 at 3 p.m. the chorale will present “Joy is Everywhere,” a musical celebration of the “ups and downs” experienced on the journey through life. For students, faculty, and staff, chorale participation is free. For alumni and community members, the cost is $150 per semester. For details, contact Shelton at tshelton@rider.edu.

Adults, youth, and children — of any faith — are invited to join the choirs directed by Shelton at Princeton United Methodist Church, located at the corner of Nassau Street and Vandeventer Avenue. The Intergenerational Choir rehearses on Sundays at 11:30 a.m. School-age children rehearse on Wednesday afternoons.

With a bachelor of music degree and a master’s degree in choral conducting from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro, Shelton teaches classes in conducting, sacred music, and music education. A past national president of the American Choral Directors Association, he has conducted festival and honor choirs in 20 states and abroad, most recently for a Treble Choir Festival in Carnegie Hall.
