Sa Dance Company Comes to State Theatre

“RISE”: The all-female Sa Dance Company, which blends the essence of Indian and American stories and movement, will perform at State Theatre New Jersey on January 10 at 7:30 p.m.

State Theatre New Jersey presents Sa Dance Company: RISE on Saturday, January 10 at 7:30 p.m. RISE is a work in four movements that is a love letter to the grandmothers, aunties, and mothers. Tickets start at $34.

The all-female Sa Dance Company (Sa) is considered a pioneer in contemporary Indian dance, blending the essence of Indian and American stories and movement. Sa’s productions center on themes of womanhood, community, and the journey of the female spirit. They honor the past, reflect on present society, and pave the way for future generations.

By crafting a contemporary folk form, Sa’s performances merge classical and contemporary influences to create a distinctly Indian American dance idiom. Sa’s name, derived from Indian classical music, signifies the foundational note of the octave, symbolizing its commitment to blending ancient traditions with modern narratives. RISE is a work in four movements that progresses through the life journey of an Indian woman.

State Theatre New Jersey is at 15 Livingston Avenue in New Brunswick. Visit Stnj.org for tickets.
