Carolers Call for Peace With “Ceasefire Carols”

CALLLING FOR PEACE: Hinds Plaza was the setting for “Ceasefire Carols” on Saturday, December 13. Participants sang traditional Christmas carols with modified lyrics along with traditional songs of peace in three languages.

In a demonstration of solidarity and an urgent call for peace, 30 carolers gathered at Palmer Square on Saturday, December 13 to share renditions of traditional Christmas carols with modified lyrics calling for a boycott of Chevron Corporation’s war profiteering in Palestine.

Carolers held signs stating “Stop Fueling Genocide” and “Christians for a Free Palestine Boycott,” also singing traditional songs of peace in Arabic, Hebrew, and Spanish.

The event was organized by a local chapter of Christians for a Free Palestine (CFP), who are calling for a boycott of Chevron Corporation, a major funder of the bombardment of Gaza.

The primary aim of this action is to emphasize the collective responsibility of Christians in the U.S. to address the ongoing genocide and apartheid in Palestine.

According to a press release, Christians for a Free Palestine (CFP) is an ecumenical, grassroots, nonviolent movement which is dedicated to mobilizing Christians across the U.S. to take action in solidarity with Palestinians. CFP sees to end the genocide in Gaza and ensure a long-lasting, just, and sustainable peace for Palestinians and Israelis. Other coalition partners joining in the action included members of the NJ Coastlands Presbytery, members of Westminster Presbyterian Church of Trenton, and the Presbyterian Church of Lawrenceville, Princeton Theological Seminary’s Students for Peace and Justice, Friends of Sabeel North America (FOSNA) NJ, The Palestine Justice Network of the Presbyterian Church (USA), Jewish Voice for Peace NJ, and Muslims 4 Peace NJ.
