We write to announce Princeton For All (princeton4all.org), a community alliance dedicated to making our town welcoming and accessible for residents of all backgrounds.
The central concept of Princeton For All is simple: our town doesn’t need defending from change. In our view, the town of Princeton has continually been enriched by the diversity of the people who live, work, and study here. Our town thrives when it remains open to newcomers and embraces thoughtful growth, which allows more families, students, workers, and neighbors to find a home. And at a time when our rights and communities face challenges at the national level, we can still act locally to create positive change.
The most important way we can build a stronger Princeton is by making it more affordable through development that fosters an inclusive environment. We should embrace the opportunities that thoughtful growth presents. Building more housing and welcoming greater density will help ensure that Princeton remains vibrant and sustainable for generations to come.
We have been disappointed by recent calls to block development, and we support the Council’s efforts to promote sensible growth. In promoting a Princeton For All, we advocate looking forward, even as we preserve what’s best about our history. Though other groups may appear to have different aims, we are heartened by their support for affordable housing in Princeton. We share this goal, and welcome everyone’s support in achieving it — and making new history.
Together, we can honor and expand the spirit of Princeton’s history by ensuring that its future is one of belonging, opportunity, and community —for all. We invite anyone who shares this vision to join us. Sign our public statement, ask for a yard sign, and help us build a more inclusive Princeton.
