“Life in the Garden” At D&R Greenway

“DRAGONFLY ON BLUE”: This photograph by Julie Tennant won Best in Show for “Life in the Garden,” the Stony Brook Garden Club’s 2020 juried exhibition of members’ photography. The exhibit is on view in the Olivia Rainbow Gallery at D&R Greenway Land Trust in Princeton through March 27.

“Life in the Garden,” the Stony Brook Garden Club’s 2020 juried exhibition of members’ photography, is now on view in D&R Greenway’s Olivia Rainbow Gallery through March 27. The exhibit features nature photographs in categories including Residents/Guests/Interlopers (pollinators); Constructing Beauty; and Winter’s Tale.

Best in Show was awarded by judges from the Garden Club of America to novice Julie Tennant for her photograph “Dragonfly on Blue.” It is featured in the Residents/Guests/Interlopers category, which emphasizes the crucial role of pollinators in gardens. The judges’ comments on Tennant’s work point out the photograph’s “stunning simplicity of line and color, [accomplished through] sharp vertical and horizontal lines set against a clean complementary color.”

“It is a privilege to exhibit the camera work of Princeton’s Stony Brook Garden Club every year in our Olivia Rainbow Gallery,” said D&R Greenway President and CEO Linda Mead. “Their dynamic images remind viewers of the importance of habitat for a wide variety of native species.”

D&R Greenway hosts an array of regional garden clubs throughout the year, as its mission and Native Plant Nursery presence and sales facilitate transforming home gardens into native habitat, nourishing and protecting native species.

A selection of prize-winning nature photography by late Stony Brook Garden Club member Leslie Kuenne is also featured in the exhibition. The gallery is named in honor of her daughter, Olivia Michelle. Stony Brook Garden Club member Anastazja Panek-Tobin said that Leslie’s “love for nature still inspires us through her photography and paintings. Her influence will always be in our hearts and in our gardens.”

“Life in the Garden” can be viewed from 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m., in the Olivia Rainbow Gallery of D&R Greenway Land Trust, One Preservation Place, Princeton (off Rosedale Road). For more information, call (609) 924-4646 or visit www.drgreenway.org.
