On 50th Anniversary of McCarter’s Music Series Bill Lockwood’s “Remarkable Achievement” Honored
To the Editor:
On Tuesday night, November 18, McCarter friends and family marked the 50th anniversary of the Music Series with a sold-out concert by the San Francisco Symphony Orchestra, the first time a full orchestra has appeared on the mainstage since 1985. Special Programming Director Bill Lockwood was honored for his remarkable achievement; he initiated the Music Series at McCarter in 1964 and has curated it ever since. The array of artists who have presented in the series reads like a “Who’s Who” of classical music in the 20th and 21st centuries, beginning with Emmanuel Ax and ending with Pinchas Zukerman.
We wish to thank Bill for sharing his talents with this supportive community of music lovers for these many years. We also thank Novo Nordisk for their sponsorship of the San Francisco Symphony Orchestra concert and the E.T. Cone Foundation for their on-going sponsorship of the Music Series at McCarter.
