Art for Healing Show, Reception For Jean Burdick Exhibition
University Medical Center of Princeton-Plainsboro (UMCPP) will host a wine-and-cheese reception on Friday, November 14, to mark the opening of “Shifting Views,” an exhibition featuring paintings and works on paper by local artist Jean Burdick.
Ms. Burdick, a painter and printmaker who has a studio in nearby Bucks County, Pa., has been exhibited regionally and nationally. Her work is part of the hospital’s permanent art collection, which includes about 350 paintings, sculptures, photographs, and other original works.
UMCPP’s permanent collection was acquired over several years, and the works are displayed throughout the hospital as part of the Art for Healing program. Research shows that viewing art, particularly images of nature, can alleviate anxiety and stress, reduce blood pressure, shorten hospital stays, and even limit the need for pain medication.
The Art for Healing Gallery, made possible by a generous donation from Princeton Anesthesia Services, features a local artist on a rotating basis. “Shifting Views” will be on view through February 28, 2015. The artworks are available for purchase, and 20 percent of the proceeds benefit the hospital.
The opening night reception on November 14 is scheduled from 5:30 to 8 p.m. in the Art for Healing Gallery, which is located in the concourse connecting UMCPP to the Medical Arts Pavilion and the Bristol-Myers Squibb Community Health Center. To attend, RSVP to www.princetonhcs.org/art by November 7.
Attendees should park in Lot V1 at the front of the hospital and use the East Entrance. (Facing the hospital, the East Entrance is to the right.) Once inside, attendees will be greeted and directed to the gallery.
