Princeton Youth Orchestra To Accept Collegians
The Greater Princeton Youth Orchestra has announced that it is now accepting college students in addition to students entering grades 8 through 12. Entrance at all grade levels is by competitive audition.
The non-profit youth orchestra, now in its 42nd year, performs four major concerts each season. In addition, students benefit from collaborations with professional guest soloists, and opportunities to perform classical as well as contemporary music. Symphony orchestra solo competitions and master classes are offered, as well as opportunities to perform on European tours.
The GPYO is under the direction of Fernando Raucci.
Students wishing to extend their current orchestral training and performance opportunities should contact Malinda Strauss at (609) 936-8700 for further details or to arrange for an audition. More information can be found at www.gpyo.org.
Pro Musica Auditioning For Its 25th Season
Princeton Pro Musica is now auditioning volunteer and paid choral singers for its 25th season. The 120-voice chorus, led by founder and music director Frances Fowler Slade, will celebrate its silver anniversary with performances of Beethoven's Ninth Symphony (The "Choral"), Brahms' Schicksalslied (Song of Destiny), Handel's Messiah, and Orff's Carmina Burana.
The chorus has openings in all voice parts. "Volunteer singers should have choral experience, and sight-reading ability is a plus," said Ms. Slade. "The standards for professional singers are more demanding, but choral experience remains paramount."
Formerly on the choral faculty of Rutgers University, Ms. Slade is currently director of music at All Saints' Episcopal Church. She has received many honors, including the Douglass Medal for outstanding service to the Douglass College community at Rutgers University.
To schedule an audition, singers should call Princeton Pro Musica at (609) 683-5122. Princeton Pro Musica's 2003-04 season will include concerts in Princeton University's Richardson Auditorium, Patriots Theater at the War Memorial Auditorium in Trenton, and Princeton High School Auditorium. The chorus rehearses on Tuesday evenings at All Saints' Church in Princeton.
