Princeton Future invites area residents to come to the Princeton Public Library on Saturday, October 17, from 9 a.m. to noon, for a program entitled “What If? Designing Our Town Together.” Participants will have an opportunity sit at a table with an architect to talk about prospective plans for the Valley Road building; Princeton Shopping Center; the area around the Bank of American and the Whole Earth Center; Griggs Corner; “A Poet’s Alley”; and a farmer’s market at the former Olive May/West Coast Video site. Coffee and refreshments will be provided.

Wolfgang Danspeckgruber, Founding Director of the Lichtenstein Institute on Self-Determination, and Lecturer in Public and International Affairs at the Woodrow Wilson School will discuss security-related issues in Afghanistan, Iran, and Central Asia at the next meeting of the Princeton Community Democratic Organization on Sunday, October 18, at 7:30 p.m. in the Suzanne Patterson Center.

Mercer County Improvement Authority’s annual “Touch-A-Truck’’ event on Saturday, October 17, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., outdoors at the Sovereign Bank Arena, will offer children of all ages an opportunity to climb into fire trucks, ambulances, loaders, garbage trucks, and mail trucks. “This event has proven to be one of the most enjoyable for the whole family year after year in Mercer County,” said County Executive Brian Hughes. Touch-A-Truck will also feature a food court, face painter and special visitors “Bob the Builder,” “Scorch” of the Trenton Devils”, and “Will U. The Princeton Regional Health Department, Princeton Senior Resource Center, and Princeton HealthCare System are hosting flu shots and health fairs on two dates: Tuesday, October 20th from 1 p.m. to 4:30 p.m., and Monday, October 26th from 1 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. H1N1/Swine Flu vaccinations will not be offered at these clinics. Residents of Princeton Borough and Township who are age 65 and over or at-risk due to a health condition will be able to obtain a flu shot at the Suzanne Patterson Building behind Princeton Borough Hall on Stockton Street. At the same time they will be able to visit the health fair for information on medications, nutrition, podiatry, balance, homecare and hospice, as well as free blood pressure and glucose screenings. Refreshments will be provided. Participants are asked to pre-register for a specific time slot by calling the Princeton Senior Resource Center at (609) 924-7108 between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. weekdays. Pneumonia immunizations, available for $30, also require pre-registration.

The Princeton YWCA is accepting nominations for its Tribute to Women awards, recognizing “women who have demonstrated significant leadership and exceptional talent, and through their actions and endeavors have exemplified the YWCA’s mission of eliminating racism and empowering women.” A nominee can be a professional, elected official, educator, business entrepreneur, or volunteer from the public or private sectors.
