Princeton Future will host a community discussion this Saturday, October 6, from 9 a.m. to 12:45 p.m., in the Community Room at the Princeton Public Library slated to focus largely on current community needs, commerce, traffic, preservation and development, and issues related to Princeton University. Architect and Princeton Future member Kevin Wilkes will give an opening presentation starting at 9 a.m., summarizing the group’s findings from their last meeting in June. That talk will be followed by two panel discussions: the first featuring architect J. Robert Hillier and Princeton University Vice President and Secretary Robert Durkee talking on private land owners and developers. The second panel will focus on elected and appointed public officials, and will feature Princeton Borough Councilman David Goldfarb, Township Committeeman Lance Liverman, Borough zoning board member Barry Royce, and Regional Plan Association Executive Vice President Tom Wright. Those presentations will then be followed by a general question-and-answer session. “The panelists will really be able to loosen their neckties and discuss these important issues,” said Mr. Wilkes in an interview. Princeton Day School has scheduled First Saturday Chess Tournaments for K-12 students from novice to the most accomplished levels. The sessions attract participants from New Jersey and Pennsylvania. Six sections are offered, ranging from “No Score” (K-1) to “Future Masters “ (K-12, over 1300), with plaques awarded to the top players in each section. Teams must consist of at least two players from the same school. Pre-registration is $30; on-site registration is $35. Each child who participates receives a medal. The first session will take place on Saturday, October 6. The Greater Princeton Championship will be held on December 1. For more information, contact Bonnie Waitzkin at Chessteach@gmail.com.
