PDS Senior Shines on Exam and Earns Top Nomination

Princeton Day School (PDS) senior Tammy Lam of Skillman has earned the highest possible score on the ACT assessment test and been named a candidate in the 2008 Presidential Scholars Program by the U.S. Department of Education.

“Tammy is an exceptional member of the Class of 2008,” said PDS Head of Upper School Carlton Tucker. “The recognition is well-deserved and makes all of us who know Tammy very proud.”

Tammy recently was recognized by the ACT program as one of only two New Jersey students — and one of only 63 nationwide — to earn the highest possible composite score (36) on the assessment test among approximately 500,000 students across the country taking the assessment test in October.

She also has been nominated as a Presidential Scholar based on her exceptional performance from among nearly 2.8 million high school students expected to graduate this year. Further consideration is based on student essays, activities, school recommendations, and records.

In April, a panel of Department of Education judges will review submissions and name 500 semifinalist Presidential Scholars from the 2,600 seniors nominated nationwide. The Commission on Presidential Scholars will make final selection later this year. Scholars will be invited to Washington D.C. to receive the Presidential Scholars medallion at a recognition ceremony and enjoy events with elected officials and other leading individuals in public life.

Anne O’Neill, Director, Alsace/USA, is among the honorees of the YWCA’s “Tribute to Women” being recognized at an awards dinner on March 6 at the Hyatt Regency Princeton. Town Topics regrets misidentifying her as former Mayor Joseph P. O’Neill’s widow in last week’s issue.
