It’s New to Us by Jean Stratton

SERVICE-DRIVEN FAMILY BUSINESS: “The customers have always been the best part of the job. We have many. many regulars, including second and third generations in Mercer and Somerset Counties. In one case, a fourth generation! Offering the best service for our customers is our priority.” Christopher (Kip) Higgins, owner of Belle Mead Garage, Inc., is proud of his family’s long-time automobile business.

A lot of changes have occurred since Leroy Higgins opened Belle Mead Garage in 1927. The location at Route 206 and Station Square in Belle Mead, was then surrounded by farmland, and Mr. Higgins first lived in the attic of the original building. No SUVs, minivans, PT Cruisers, or jeeps were in evidence in those days, nor were seat belts and airbags. There were not even a glimpse on the American horizon of Hondas, Toyotas, and Kias.

BEAUTIFUL BATHROOMS: “There are many different kinds of shower heads with different functions and spray patterns: aerated and effervescent, pulsating massage, needle jet, and rain showers, for example,” says Jill Jefferson-Miller, product manager at Jefferson Bath and Kitchen. She is shown by a display of Jaclo (a New Jersey company) shower heads, faucets, hardware, and accessories.

Once upon a time, it was a “convenience”, a “necessary”, a “privy”. It has indeed been a long time since the outhouse was the way to go!

For many homeowners today, the bathroom is bigger and better than ever. Beautiful bathrooms often provide a spa-like atmosphere, a sophisticated sanctuary allowing soothing relaxation in footed tubs, multi-function showers featuring different water pressure and spray patterns, such as “massage”, “rain”, “champagne bubbles”. There are also, toilets with heated seats, automatic open/close lids, hygienic cleansing wands, and warm air dryers.
