The Princeton Health Department will continue to pick up dead crows to be tested by the State Health Department for West Nile virus infection. Area residents are asked to call (609) 497-7608 to report sighting dead crows. The department notes that the presence of infected birds does not necessarily indicate that the virus is present in mosquitoes in the area. The department encourages residents to be alert to places on their property where mosquitoes can breed, such as discarded tires, birdbaths, children’s wading pools, garden pots, buckets, or other outdoor containers. These should be frequently cleaned, drained, or removed. Special attention should be given to gutters and downspouts. Private ponds can be stocked with tiny mosquitofish (Gambusia Affinis) which eat mosquito larvae.
