The date was November 14, 2007 and the New York Giants were reeling from a 31-20 loss to the Dallas Cowboys days earlier while the Princeton University men’s basketball team improved to 2-0 with a win over Iona.

Over the next 73 days, the Giants went on a historical run becoming the ultimate road warriors as they won three straight away playoff contests to qualify for a clash with the undefeated New England Patriots in Super Bowl XLII.

He towers above the opposition at 6’8 but A.J. Dowers wasn’t taking advantage of his size last year for the Princeton High boys’ basketball team.

“I think I played scared in the past,” said Dowers. “I was just scared of getting hit, scared of getting injured. I think my teammates and God have given me the strength to go out on the court without fear.”

Jordan Shapiro realized she was fighting a battle on several fronts as the Princeton High girls’ swimming team competed at WW/P-S last Thursday.

“We knew what we were coming up against,” said Shapiro, referring to the once-beaten Pirates. “We knew their record and their times. It’s a definitely a big meet to get excited about and see what we can do.”

Herr, Mantell Share Common Ground in Leading Lawrenceville Girls’ Hockey

The two girls were born hours apart on June 11, 1990 and they grew up around the corner from each other in Princeton.

The neighbors, Sarah Herr and Becky Mantell, started playing youth hockey as grade schoolers with both of them competing on boys’ teams to hone their skills.

While never playing on the same club team, the two joined forces in high school as they both became members of the Lawrenceville School girls’ hockey team.

Samse Takes Advantage of Scoring Chances as PDS Boys’ Hockey Wins MCT Opener

Skye Samse is realistic about his role on the Princeton Day School boys’ hockey team.

“I know I’m not one of the first line players but I just want to contribute as much as I can,” said the freshman forward. “Whenever I get my chances, I want to make them count.”
